Ok, I cheated...there's a photo from last week too...but I thought it important to include Fashion Week and I think I missed a week? Well, with Adams move this past weekend things were a bit wonky. On a related note, one week from tomorrow and my apartment will finally be ready!! It was HOT this week...over 110 on more than one day, a few days we gave up by mid afternoon and headed off to watering holes...it seemed the only sane thing to do!
Life is not all waiting and wondering as I may have let on in the last post. My days have been filled to the brim with catching up on Manic Trout and a whole lot of fun this past week! I am really enjoying living in a town that people want to visit, and already this week, my cousin Jerry was here on business and took my sister Holly and I for a seafood dinner that was awesome beyond words. Here is a glimpse of some of the stuff I've been up too...
I think I just did more stuff in Austin since last Friday than I did in Millbrook in a year. Yay!!!!!!
This past weekend Adam was visiting and as he had never been to NYC and in a few short weeks, I will no longer be a resident of the Empire State, we decided to spend a long weekend in Manhattan. Without planning out anything before hand, we ended up fitting in a ton of stuff and I felt like I gave the big apple a proper farewell and at the same time giving Adam a proper introduction!
Friday night we checked into the Hudson in mid town and met up with Adams childhood friend Lindsey and my friend Matthew who I went to school with at Syracuse for dinner at Freemans Alley in the lower East side. After an awesome dinner, Adam, Matthew and I ventured off into the night to a pub where we ran into another classmate of Matthew's from SU...how weird is that? The boys were in the mood for some Karaoke, so we headed to 2nd street where we found both Karaoke and following an hour or so of questionable singing, a bar that the three of us lasted about two minutes in. At this point it was 2 am and where else would we have gone, but Times Square! We ate hot dogs under neon lights and then called it a night.
Saturday we had brunch with my sister Gillian and her boyfriend Javier and then headed off to the Central Park Zoo. It was the perfect size to wander around and not get overwhelmed and so much fun. The boys then wanted to check out the big Nike store, and Gilly and I perused Chanel and Miu Miu where I had no desire to look at Fall clothes as it was 95 degrees out.
After an afternoon out and about, we dressed for dinner and headed to The Porter House in the Time Warner building for oysters, the most delicious steak on the planet and fantastic scotch. I learned that I now prefer steak so rare that I should order "extra rare" so its not charred black and blue style. Mouth watering awesomeness is what it is.
I though of going to Serendipity for frozen hot chocolates, but we decided to go visit Gilly at the Shake Shack she manages and have a delicious shake for dessert instead. We also had Gilly there with us to take dorky photos of us...love it.
Sunday we went to a Yankees Game with Gilly and Jav, and it was awesome, they won...we had cotton candy, beer and hot dogs. It was perfect.
We meant to go home on Sunday night, but decided to stay on until Monday and I was so happy that we did! Jav lives in the Financial District so after the game we visited Ground Zero and wandered down by the water where we could see Lady Liberty off in the distance.
While deciding on dinner, the four of us played cards and had cocktails on Javs deck which was like a little jewel filled with flowers and teak deck furniture amid the mass of concrete around of us.
We opted on a fantastic Sushi restaurant with a view of the Brooklyn Bridge and copplestone streets outside the open doors.
After dinner, Adam and I headed back to our hotel and finished the weekend off with fantastic live blues at Terra Blues on Bleecker Street. We sat in candle light with a great selection of scotch and even managed to get a dance in before we called it a night.
It was an amazing weekend, the majority of it spent smiling like we are above and saying a proper farewell to nyc!

Yesterda was the unofficial start of Summer. Wow. It came so fast! The scary part if that before the end, I will be living in a new city, far away form where I am now and that time is getting closer and closer. I am off to Texas again this weekend to check out apartments and am really excited!
Besides the move, I have no summer travel plans this year, but I'm hoping to get to an ocean at some point. Do you have any great summer destinations planned this year?
Nothing says summer like a cool car…

The wind in your hair...the open road...the feeling of possibilities and adventure...and hey, it never hurts to just feel utterly cool while driving around listing to your favorite music...

Trying something new...here is a little playlist for you...makes me think of lush lawns, refreshing pools, rides to the beach, coasting down hills on bikes, lying on the dock at my families camp in NH, frolicking with friends, fresh cut grass, sitting on the cool rocks of rivers and acting like I have no cares in the world...

Summer rolls on by

I have realized recently that I still think of summer in terms of break from school, meaning that then I think of summer form the end of May untill the end of Aug. Well, with that way of thinking, summer is already half over! I have not even been on a beach yet, I have not seen an ocean...where has it gone? So I then decided it was time to think of summer in calendar terms, as in the end of June to the end of Sept. Well, ok then, summer just began. Well then I thought, if I think in terms of design, then fall is already in full swing...and then I decided to stop thinking about how to define summer and try to enjoy some it.
I have been trying to at least go outside and wander around with my dog during daylight recently, and to catch up with friends when there feels like the days will deliciously last forever...which really only happens for me twice a week, because the other five days I have to go to work in the late afternoon, so I always feel like I have no time during the day. One of the main reasons for my being such a night owl is that I have hours stretched out ahead of me to work uninterrupted at night, and I love that feeling. OK I have 15 minutes before I leave for the restaurant, I'm going to take Faye out and see if we can catch a glimpse the parade that's about to pass by my house...I'm serious, its the firemans parade today...
