Ephemicropolis by Peter Root (made of 100,000 staples)
I love when an artist takes a completely common place, every day item and turns it into something so amazing that you have remind yourself what it is. Even better is imagining what the process must have been like to get them from using a stapler to creating the mini city above. Pretty amazing.
It's no secret that I am obsessed with twinkle lights. I have a pinterest board dedicated to and designed a line of jewelry inspired by them. I have held back from having them in the house year round so that the winter months are more magical, but Adam is encouraging of their existence, so that may change. This week I have visited Target twice to buy more and I haven't even trimmed the tree yet! I'm a bit nervous to begin as I fear that this will happen...
It will start innocently enough...I'll stand there with that first strand of lights and wonder if I should begin with the tree or the mantle.
Then I'll be inspired to get creative...do something "fun" with the lights...look how pretty!
Once the creativity is flowing, I may start to get ambitious...covering vast areas normally not associated with twinkle light decorating.
Which will then escalate to even more bizarre placements as I get caught up in the frenzy of sparkle!!
Finally, I will go completely over board and fill the house to it's brim, causing blackouts throughout the neighborhood from twinkle light abuse and collapse in a pile under the wonderment that I have created...possibly fueled by too much candy while I worked.
I however will get to admire an amazing installation of light while lying there on the floor, so at least I'll have that. Let the holidays begin!!!
I miss my daily photos...so I'm bringing them back! I'm also mad at Pinterest because it lost one of my favorite boards. My solution to both of these dilemmas is to share my favorite pins here...so I know they're safe and sound
I'm a total sucker for packaging. I have said many times that if a brand goes through the effort to please me, the target customer, than they win because I certainty have been know to try out a product purely for its package. On the flip side, I have spent countless hours on the packaging for Manic Trout and constantly evolving it to keep it fresh. Do you pay as much attention to the packaging as the contents?
I am deep in the design process right now. If you've ever watched House and you know how he stops what he's doing because he has suddenly figured it all out...that's what I do when I"m in this process. The designs build up and swirl about in my head as I start to problem solve about the look, logistics and materials and then BAM! I figure it out and have to write it down immediately. I constantly sit straight up in bed at night, turn on the light and sketch or take notes in the notebook on my bedside table. I do the same with the moleskin in my bag. I have been a fiend for images both in magazine and online and I have materials spread out ALL OVER my studio right now. It's all happening, a new collection is coming together.
The first necklace of The Bridal Line has officially been born which means I am now starting to process what direction to go in and what has been my greatest inspiration. So far, light bulbs seem at the top of that list. Yes, light bulbs. From twinkle lights to huge globes and all that falls in between, I have become obsessed with light bulbs. I pulled together a Pinterest board today to gather all of the light bulbs images I keep grabbing online and thought it would be fun to share my favorites...
If you're digging this source of inspiration, you will find these and amazingly enough, many more light bulbs on my .
p.s. if you see any great light bulbs anywhere, send a link my way!
Ah, this reminds me that I have been slacking on the great pillow redo of 2011. I realized when I participated in color week this winter that there is a lot more red in my apartment then I realized. Yet whenever asked about my favorite colors, I never think of it. How odd.
I'm still working on the great pillow redo project in my living room. Stuck until the Coffee Sack pillow arrives. Here's a bit of inspiration for myself...once again makes me want to cover my couches with white denim slipcovers.
I will be kind enough to share my secret source with you for the bounty of colored leg wear: has an AWESOME selection of colored tights. The question now is...what colors do I buy this year???
I wear mostly charcoal gray, black and brown dresses in the winter, and I always buy a fuchsia pair...but what else should I get??
Well, I have actually been back for a few days, but have been so pumped and full of ideas that forgot to check in and say hi!
It was wonderful to relax and recharge and I went with my 3 roommates from college, so I had a week of the kind of discussions that you need extremely close friends and time in order to have. It was wonderful and made me think a bit about what I am looking forward to next!
There is so much going on right now and I have such an excessive amount of coffee that I can't really think straight...so I will just leave you with a lovely image of my trip...
I have heard that decorators will actually go and buy books just for their spine colors to achieve this affect in houses...which is really a bit sad...but part of me really wants to rearrange my book shelves to this effect. I have created my dream room filled with books, my painting supplies and a big comfy couch...sadly I do not have time to even go in there right now...but whatever, I smile whenever I walk by it. I really need to rearrange the bookshelves and part of me wants to spend a day doing it just like this room this winter...if I do, I promise to share it with you...
