Ok, here's the dealio...I ordered this dress for my sisters graduation at the end of May.  Deets to keep in mind, the ceremony is at 11 am on a Sunday and its on a lawn, so I will need to wear flats.

I ordered it from the Ann Taylor Weddings & Events department, you can see it here and I thought it was going to be more pink from the photo...however the color is named fresh tulip, so I should have thought about that.  Anyway, its more purple then I imagined but really is the color of a tulip.

I'm not really sure about it.  Its seems kind of off...I think I usually go for a fuller skirt.  I really would love some input here, should I keep it for graduation?  Help! (excuse my weird faces...I wasn't really paying attention to the timer)

About a month ago I caught up in a bit o' blog post lust and ordered a simple little bowl from a store in England.  I think I paid under $10 for the bowl and sort of forgot about it except to think, hmmm, what ever happened to that bowl I ordered.  Well today, it arrived, yay!!  In this box...booo!

Bowl Packing
The peeps at the PO desk just laughhed and "well, I hope you insured it!". The running joke seems to be that anything with Fragile on it will be beaten to death.  Lovely.  Oh, and yes, I declared that "it must be Italian"...I never miss a good movie quote.  Anyway, I brought my bowl home and crossed my fingers...

Bowl Packing 2
At this point I realized that there was hope after all...look at all the types of packing material!

Bowl Packing 3
Woo hoo!! It's not broken!!!!  I may have done a bit of dancing here...well a pathetic bit, I'm sick after all...but it's not broken!!

Bowl packing 4
It's so pretty!  I'm kind of obsessed with little orphan bowls.  I tend to buy a new one every spring and eat everything I make out of it.  Oh happy day!  I will christen it with a celebratory bowl of cereal later for dinner...oh yeah.

As Manic Trout has grown over the past few years, the holidays have taken on new meaning for me.  The six weeks up to Christmas is hectic, chaotic and filled with hour upon hour of full filling holiday shopping orders to be shipped out as fast as possible.  Even though its stressful I truly love it and have in the past two years streamlined the whole operation so I can manage it all with as little freaking out as possible.  I however have had to really make an effort to get my own shopping done in the midst of all this...one year I completely forgot and had to go to the mall on Christmas eve.  NOT FUN, and my gifts that year, while still thoughtful...were missing something.

So this year I did a bit of planning.  I decided I was only going to by either handmade, from businesses owners I network with online or from local business owners I know (well except for one item that my mom really wanted for the kitchen, but hey, who can say no to their mom!).  I found gifts I loved and I was really happy to hand over my hard earned earnings to those I see work so hard themselves all year growing their own businesses.

A few of my favs were a gorgeous photo of the UVA campus which I framed for my stepfather David who is an alum.  I found this on Etsy through their gift finder facebook tool...excellent suggestion Etsy!

However, my favorite gift of all was a last minute addition, I saw these vintage paint by number paintings in their matching wooden frames at The Pumpkin House (owned by one of my besties, Tara Wing) and knew instantly that they would look awesome in the man cave (aka, Shane's apartment).

Aren't they awesome??? They are even signed on the back, and they were painted the year I was born.  I can't wait to see them up!

Do you try to shop local, handmade or from those you know?

Celebrate

Well, not really...more like, very happy with my spending decisions!!  I get points with my business check card which is a Visa and at the end of each year, I trade them in for gift cards to treat myself a bit.  Last year I bought a cashmere bathrobe, which I have wanted for YEARS...and you know what, it was worth every point.  This year I had credit still from last years Saks gift cards and used that towards the very fancy Anthousa Diffuser in Nectarine/Currant, which smells awesome and is sooo pretty!  Living with Faye and now having Jane as a regular guest, I have developed a passionate love for scent diffusers to help scent the air with loveliness rather then dog.  I have bought a few that once home I found so intolerable that I had to throw them out, so I was thrilled with how much I loved this scent!

Anthousa

This year I opted to go with Amazon gift cards, as you can find almost everything there...and by everything I mean everything from software to bath towels to my favorite tights from We Love Colors.  Hmmm, perhaps I should work on making Manic Trout found there too...I'll work on that.

Anyway, as you may have gathered by my obsession last week over productivity software, I get a bit giddy over the organized life.  So I have been lusting after the totally rad looking Bento...a database program that's a low key version of FileMaker.  I have big plans this January to put together a database for my designs, blueprints and supplies needed for each piece of jewelry.  Very necessary as I have help in the making of all these pretties and need a better way to explain each piece.  I am actually really excited about this and will I am sure, share as I go with this project!

Now as for the towels...its been so long since I last bought bath towels that I still am using monogrammed towels with my married name...that I got for a shower gift...and I got married in 2002.  In addition to that, somehow, my stack of wash clothes (I only use them for my face in the shower) have all turned pink???  You get the idea that new towels were a needed purchase that I kept putting off, but I am very happy happy to report that I am now the proud owner of a fluffy stack of white turkish cotton bath, hand and face towels.  Yay!

Of course the last thing on my list was this seasons stack of colored tights...I went with Fuchsia (duh), Grey, Navy and Teal!  I still want Amethyst but they didn't have them on the Amazon site, but four pairs are really all I need right now.  I have a feeling that in the middle of the January blahs that treating my self to a few new pairs of tights would be a welcome blast of color.

But seriously, it was like Christmas...and I think the perfect way to spend my points this year!

Colored tights!!!

I will be kind enough to share my secret source with you for the bounty of colored leg wear: www.welovecolors.com has an AWESOME selection of colored tights.  The question now is...what colors do I buy this year???

I wear mostly charcoal gray, black and brown dresses in the winter, and I always buy a fuchsia pair...but what else should I get??

I received Faye's annual new leash & collar set today!  I decided to move on from the ribbon style as they loose their luster so quickly and went instead with an Eco Friendly, 100% recycled and very fetching (couldn't help it) Harry Barker Deauville set.  It was tough to decide this year...I was over on the Molly & Max site undecided for some time, but happy with my decision...as is Faye...

...if I could only get her in Manic Trout...she's a fickle little thing.
