Today is the last day of Winter Colours Week...I had so much fun doing this!  I really enjoyed being part of the project and seeing what else everyone was snapping.  I used it mainly as an exercise to practice taking relevant photographs for the blog.  I loved having an assignment and that I restricted myself to using my apartment as my canvas so to speak.  It was incredibly stimulating creativity wise!

So for the final day of the week...here are the Silver & Gold things I found around my home!

To continue on with Winter Colours Week, I am posting Blue found in my apartment.  It was harder then I thought!  Blue was always a favorite color of mine, but you would never know that by looking in my home...sheesh.

OK, I figured that I might as well keep playing along and go the whole week...although I am not sure if I'll upload to the flickr group, but I will post along the Winter Colours Week Schedule!  I had to play catch up, here is Tuesdays group of White which I found in my apartment!

I really, really wanted to participate in the Winter Colours Week over at PoppyTalk...but oops, I can't always get to everything on time.  I thought I would share my Red images anyway, as I had so much fun walking around spying red things this morning in my apartment!

Vintage red topped school teachers desk

The desk has a story...I bought it for my first solo apartment.  It started out as the first apartment I lived with a boy in, but we ended and I got to keep the prettiest apartment I ever had...well, until this one.  Anyway, it was on the top floor of an old converted factory building in Syracuse, with super high ceilings and a wall of huge windows which overlooked the city.  I was the youngest resident of the building.  As it turned out I went to prep school with the son of the owner, so he felt he could trust me...I felt very grown up...despite not having any furniture.

NiMo

The Niagra Mowhawk building was in my view, which as you can see is an incredible Art Deco structure by day and by night...well they light it up...sometimes with colors...its incredible to have as your view.

Anyway...back to not having furniture...there was an Antique Store on the bottom two floors which shared the elevator with the rest of the building.   I slowly furnished most of my apartment by riding downstairs in my slippers, wandering around for hours in the different booths looking for the prefect pieces to fill my home.  It was a huge shop and consigned most of the space out to different sellers, so there was new stuff daily and tons of stuff in there.  I would be down there for until I was exhausted and out of cash (thank you bartending!), then I would simply load up the elevator and zoom up to the fifth floor where I just had to push my goodies a tiny way to home.  It was awesome.

I remember the day I saw that desk.  It was love at first sight.  12 years later, its still one of my favorite pieces in my home!  Wow.  That was quite the tangent.

ice cream

I have been very into ice cream recently.  Only at work at the end of the night though and as we're only open Friday and Saturday nights, I figure its not so bad.  Its Ronnybrook and already pre scooped on big trays so I just have to pop into the freezer and it takes seconds to fill my bowl up.  I prefer mixing different flavors and just for kicks, I like to mix it up with Ciao Bella gelato and its soooo yummy.  Strawberry ice cream and raspberry sorbet is my favorite combo right now, but I am sucker the double combo of ginger or coffee mixed with vanilla too.  It must be as I have been wearing dresses without tights still so I have to realllllly want it to stand the chill it causes after!

I have this habit of tying my hair in knots when I there are no bobby pins or elastics around.  I also get told on a regular basis that my hair looks like a birds nest...by men anyway.  Women understand that I am blessed with pretty great hair.  I am lucky to have really fine hair with a great deal of curl, so its light enough and has plenty of texture to hold either a big bun style knot or to pull just the from back and knot and is fine enough that the knots can be undone pretty easily.  After having super, super short hair for years I am really digging the ability to be able to tie my hair in knots again.  Its simple, effective and I think looks good too.  The bf does not agree, it really irks him for some reason and he's always undoing the knots and telling me to stop tying my hair in knots.  I have no idea why this stresses him out, but I find it pretty adorable that it does and just redo the knot.  This has become a pretty amusing replaying conversation and as I have yet to find others who employ this method of hair taming.  I haven't had much to validate my chosen style as a anything other than being bizarre; so you can image my delight when I saw this post on A Cup of Joe this morning!

I'm not the only one!!!

So, I always grocery shop and run errands on Mondays, is that weird?  I love coming home and making that first meal with an abundance of fresh ingredients to choose from.  This Monday I decided to bake Banana Bread as I had bananas left over that were perfect for bread.  Plus, it smells sooooo amazing while baking and is so simple to make!

A peek at Monday's bounty

Monday is usually a late studio night for me but this was an exception as I had an unexpected visitor for the evening. I didn't get much work done as I was a bit distracted walking and playing with Faye and our guest for the evening, but I had so much fun.  I also enjoyed a special late night dinner of the freshest Venison I've ever had.  If you have been lucky enough to be treated to the tenderloin on the same night, you know how incredibly awesome it is.  Yum!

Pups

Faye & Jane wondering why I am working instead of playing with them

Thank you to facebook and my love of cheeses, Shanley and Christine came over last night and I created a festive cocktail for them.  I tossed a handful of pomegranate seeds (great instructions for cutting open the fruit) into a wine glass along with a few tiny ice cubes.  Poured in a bit of Sancerre (or your favorite light white wine),  a healthy splash of Pom Juice and filled the rest of the glass with Pellagrino.  Was a complete hit with the ladies and went well with the cheese, pears, grapes & prosciutto!

Somehow I manged to get a decent amount of work in between all this fun and of course I voted!  Tomorrow I have lunch with a friend and then have to chain myself to my desk for awhile as I am crossing my fingers that I will be eating remarkable lasagna for dinner...well its more like I am crossing my fingers that the lasagna will be remarkable anyway.  I have been craving kick ass Italian food and after realizing that i have no idea where to find it, I asked around and think I may have found mecca...I'll make to let you know if I do...promise.

As you know, I am an avid reader and collector of books.  I have won awards for my book collections, have a room lined with them and have been know to read a stack in two days time.  I love books.  I refuse to read books electronically because love how they smell, feel and look.  I have cuddled up in bed for at least 20 minutes every night of my life with a book, its necessary for my sanity.  I told a librarian the other day that these days I tend to alternate between classics and fluff...just to keep a balance.  She thought I was actually onto something...its kind of like Interval training with exercise.  You slowly pour over a great piece of literary art and then fly through some sort of "new city/new man/new job" fun book (you can identify they as they often have hot pink on their covers) and then dig into another masterpiece.

I just finished The Bone People by Keri Hulme.  It was a fantastic book, but heavy.  When I finished it I started Why Girls Are Weird by Pamela Ribon, don't get me wrong...this is a great book and I have laughed so hard while reading it that tears streamed down my cheeks and Faye looked at me weird.  I have however read most of it in two days.

Hmmm, what's up next is the question.  I'm thinking Infinite Jest by David Foster Wallace, but the size of the thing makes me not want to deal with holding it up to read it.   Seriously...they should put a weight warning on it...I would be terrified for my back if I had to carry it around with me.  Size aside, I have had it since it came out in paper back about four years ago and it can stay on the shelf for awhile longer if something better comes along...any suggestions?

I will now confess to you that I have fallen in love with Yoga.  I KNOW!  I am completely shocked myself, but as the old adage goes, absence does make the heart grow fonder.  Rouben was away for 2 weeks and last week I was unable to head back to the studio as I was sick and then had a scheduling conflict for the second class.  But today, oh today...I returned and I realized how much I missed it.  I knew I was getting into it and was excited to go back, but today I realized how much I really, really, really like it.

I am so happy just knowing that I have class again on Thursday.  That I get to spend 90 minutes not looking at my blackberry, designing, talking or be in control of anything other then me.  I never would have thought I would utter such a statement.  Oh, how I love growing!
