I of course had no problem spotting pink all over the place in Austin for Colour Week...my eye seems to be naturally drawn to the color!

I can't believe it's already time for the Spring Colours Week over at Poppytalk!!  I am in Austin, Texas right now, so I thought it would be fun to participate while exploring the city.  The first day was yesterday and the color was green.  As I was traveling most of the day, I have to catch up, but it was so much fun to snap photos with a color theme today!!

A few months ago, Jess, (one of the besties) emailed and explained that she wanted to start thinking about planning a business over the next couple of years, so when her girls were in school, she would be all ready to start a new venture for herself.  I was so thrilled to hear this, as I think she will do a marvelous job.  After I emailed her back, I realized that rather then chatting on the phone or endless emailing, that sitting down for a few hours together would be the best possible way I could help.  So this past Monday, I jumped in my car and got my toushy to Baltimore to talk business.

The best part of chatting in person, is that the business part can take place alongside a wonderful visit and a few adventures can even be squeezed in between work chats!  In just two short days, I visited the American Visionary Museum, learned what a Hon is and had the fantastic La Petroleuse at The Brewers Art.  It was wonderful to catch up with both Jess and her husband Steve, who I also went to Syracuse with and I totally bonded with Zoey and Kira too, they were so much fun to hang out with!

I even managed to sneak in a bit of my own work too while I was there.  When I was planning my trip, I emailed a fellow creative business owner who I have been in the same forums with for years.  I knew she lived in Baltimore, so I figured, hey, why not meet her out while I was there.  It was awesome to sit and talk in person with her as well...and really great to hang out with someone who has as much drive and ambition as my workaholic self!

The only downside of the trip was that the weather took us by surprise and I woke up to 5 inches of snow and a blizzard the morning of my return.  I knew bad weather was expected in NY later in the day, but this came out of nowhere!  I ended up driving home in horrible weather...at one point they actually closed I-95 due to an accident.  I did however make it home without a scratch, it just took an extra 3 1/2 hours!  I think my next visit can wait until Spring ;)

Hudson River view

As today's weather was perfect, I took the afternoon off and had took the birthday boy to lunch on the Hudson River. It was sunny and 70 degrees with a breeze...fantastic weather for eating outside.

You can see my favorite local art here too...a whale sculpture which I adore is embedded in the lawn in front of the river. Its kind of randomly placed on the grass, rather large and I'm not sure why they decided to put a whale next to the river. It is however covered in mosaic tiles and makes me smile every time I see it.

brie

We had lunch at the River Station, and did I mention there was cheese involved?? A baked brie with raspberry coulis, walnuts and toasted pita...it was divine! The perfect way to spend a lazy end of summer afternoon.

I had a wonderful time Sunday night meeting up with my Ladies Who Launch group at Flute in Manhattan. There were about 10 of us this time and we had a wonderful time sipping champagne cocktails and discussing the ins, outs, ups and downs of business ownership. It was incredibly motivating and something I treasure!

I stayed the night in nyc and the next day spent 5 wonderful hours in the Museum of Natural History...the highlights were the dinosaurs, planetarium and of coarse the oceanic wing.

and yes, the bigger one was for me...

Before heading home, I had the best slice of pizza ever at Two Boots and finished the trip off with a Red Velvet cupcake from Two Little Red Hens. All in all a highly motivational and inspirational trip!

Well, I have actually been back for a few days, but have been so pumped and full of ideas that forgot to check in and say hi!

It was wonderful to relax and recharge and I went with my 3 roommates from college, so I had a week of the kind of discussions that you need extremely close friends and time in order to have. It was wonderful and made me think a bit about what I am looking forward to next!

There is so much going on right now and I have such an excessive amount of coffee that I can't really think straight...so I will just leave you with a lovely image of my trip...

The first time I ventured out and about to enjoy this fall  I completely dropped the ball and forgot a camera...I still feel bad about that...but as of last week when I was forced to get a new Blackberry (bought the Tour and its rocks!) I now at least have something to snap shots with at all times...as we know I ALWAYS have that stupid BB on me.  So when I spent last Tuesday wandering around the woods behind the Carey Institute I at least had my phone to capture a few shots.

I was encouraged to crawl through a thicket of prickers for this...and I am holding on to a branch that kept threatening to knock me into the water...but it was worth it...as I look all woodsy...

...and I forgot to bring my camera...oops! In this modern word of blogs and technology, you start you feel that if you don't have proof then it didn't happen...kind of sad. I trekked up Stissing Mountain and then up the watch tower (which was so very Dazed and Confused) and had the most amazing view of mountains, hills, lakes and valleys...all in the early stages of fall...so unbelievably breathtaking. As I totally dropped the ball on sharing the visual, I will share this photo, which I have loved for a year or so and have been waiting for the perfect time to share it...

On my way to Stissing Mountain, I drove past a spot that could easily have been the location for this photo, and I instantly realized I found the perfect time to share!

I went to visit my dad about a month ago and stayed down at our families camp...let me tell you, sleeping rather rustically and using an outhouse for two nights actually does a great deal to recharge you.  Especially when you don't have internet access for the three days you're away...I came home refueled and ready to conquer the world....well, the new website anyway...

In an attempt to bring a touch of calm back with me, I snapped a few shots from the porch the last night and the morning I left...in poured rain...sideways across the lake in fact,  that morning, I thankfully woke up to the thunder and shut all of the windows, but a grey, wet haze was still in the air...I wish I had thought to take a shot when the sun was out, but these images seem to be so serene that they do the job for me...

Now I just have to get myself in the car and drive myself there more then every five years...
