Balloons for Mothers Day
Those of us who do outdoor markets chat about a certain topic often...that people try to shop/touch stuff/ask questions while we are in the middle of a very fast set up time.  It's a downside of having a show outdoors where people feel there are no boundaries and a dilemma of how to handle the interruption.  I more often then not gladly stop what I'm doing to pull out necklaces or help them find something so they can see what I design and make before I even have it out on the tables, as I know its hard to see part of something without wondering what it's all about.  But sometimes, you know they are being nosy and are really just in your way...those are the days that you wish you had a door, with a lock.  For example...last Saturday two young girls (around 12 I'd guess) cam running into my tent and grabbed at not the jewelry but a framed photo of press placements and were all excited over it.  I had to explain that they were holding booth decor, not an actual product to purchase, that they were images of the press I've had, that's all.  It was kind of an awkward moment for all of us, hahaha.

So when I walked into the HEB on Tuesday afternoon and saw this...

Balloons Mothers Day
...which was just the biggest collection of balloons that I have ever seen in one place!! I looked around and saw that two women were filling them up and this was their make shift staging area.  I couldn't help myself though!!  I walked right over and stood in the midst of all of the ribbons...and even though I was perhaps in the way, they didn't seem to mind as it was the middle of the produce section.  It made me smile thinking to myself as I gazed up at the awesome display before me that sometimes, you just can't help yourself, you just have to jump right into the staging area.

Manic Trout Pink Toms

Every time I put them on, I smile.  Days full of bright sunshine and fuchsia footwear are pretty rad days.

ScienceLoveAbso-freaking-lutly adorable.  I realize more and more with every passing year what a nerd I am.  Little sentiments such as this one tickle my nerdish fancy even though my life has not an iota of science in it.  But still.

POW_FlowersI divided up the huge bouquet of flowers from Adam on my birthday and I couldn't resist snapping these bright and cheery ranunculus against the tissue paper in my studio.  So fun!

MarieClaireMarch2010I'll admit it, I not only owned a pair of combat boots in my teens but I wore them with dresses.  Mind you, it was the early 90's and grunge was all the rage...so don't judge.  I still have a soft spot for feminine dresses with bad ass boots...and lately I have been jonesing for a pair of cowboy boots to wear with my closet full of skirts.  Eh, I figure if I'm going to be a Texan, I might as well embrace it and embrace it I will...the search starts tomorrow!

TableDecay
I'm a bit obsessed with peeling walls.  You know the kind...the ones with hundreds of years of paper and paint showing through in all different ways.  Can't get enough.  I even have watched movies which included them in the set designs just to gaze at them...hello, Kings Speech!  Decayed architecture in general makes me swoon...rather morose, but I love em!

ps...I have an entire board of decayed images over on Pinterest...just sayin'.

BlueArches
Today is one of those days...you know the ones.  It's a day that seems to be bursting at the seems with so much to do.  Where you feel as though there are five new things added to your to-do list for every one you cross off.  Yesterday I played hookey from Manic Trout all afternoon and evening to linger in restaurants (twice!) and bake cupcakes with my friend Lisa.  It was tons of fun, but left me playing a bit of catch up today.  I also have just added two meetings to my morning tomorrow so I'm running around even more trying to be as productive as possible today.

One of my tasks was to update the design of my business cards for the Texas Style Council Social Media Conference for which I am a proud sponsor and for Style X at which I will have a booth.  The events happen a week apart on the weekends of SXSW and I'm already a bit nervous about the mountain of tasks to accomplish for both.  The list of to-do's is getting longer by the hour, but at least my business cards got designed and ordered today!

SilverMylarLoveI was a very lucky kid growing up in that my mom celebrated all holidays with extreme enthusiasm, including half birthdays.  Btw, I realized this year that no one else celebrated half birthdays.  When Adam and I set the date for the wedding we were back and forth between two dates, but the one we settled on and kept coming back happens to be my half birthday.  When I share this fun little fact with anyone, I just get a confused stare.  Sad for them, because half birthday rock.

Anyway...I had to smile this morning when I woke to both facebook and text messages from my mom wishing me a Happy Valentines Day and lots of love and it made me smile and reminded me that to me Valentines Day was never about showing one special person that you love them, but rather a day about celebrating love...or candy hearts...but whatever, I have a weird fixation on holiday specific candy.  Well, and about making cards, but I just realized that when I moved, I did not bring my glitter and how the heck am I supposed to make a Valentines Day card without glitter???

Anyway...I have more thoughts on the subject, but this week Adam and I are posting on She Says He Says today rather than Monday in honor of Valentines Day, and I don't want to step on my own toes.  So I'm signing off to go search for candy hearts, which I love, but only the Sweethearts Conversation Hearts...not the knock off brands.  Also not a fan of chocolate...ok this is becoming about candy, time to go...but wait...Happy Valentines Day!

SnowLinedRoadI didn't think I'd miss winter as much as I do.  I'm finding myself missing the magical feeling when you walk outside after a huge snow storm and the entire world has turned to a glimmering white...especially at night...there's nothing like it.  It gets cold here, and it even hailed yesterday for a few minutes, but to me, winter will never feel right without snow days.

I try to redo the Inspiration Boards in my studio every other month or so, but honestly, as digital media is so prevalent in my life now, I have been letting my magazine subscriptions go.  This just means that I have to sometimes stockpile a few months to get enough images together to redo the massive boards I have.  Once I have a good sized stack to go through...it only takes an evening to redo them.

InspBoards_Feb_2012_011. Gather your materials.  I prefer fashion mags, but you can of course use whatever inspires you the most.  Then rip them apart, taking the mags apart like ripping a page off of a pad of paper will give you the best edges.  You just rip the page off from the top right and pull towards you actually taking apart the spine.  Save all of the images you find the most inspiring, I tend to stick to full pages because my boards are so large, but you can cut up smaller images too! I recommend you select enough images so you have leftovers and are able to edit.

InspBoards_Feb_2012_022. Once you have your images, it's time to sort through them.  I tend to "theme" my boards without realizing it until I have the piles of images together. This month I had a red board and a bright color board.  In the past, I've had themes such as 50's, Black & White and Moody.  It's your inspiration...go with whatever feels right!

InspBoards_Feb_2012_033. Get your first theme together and edit again to see what does not fit when you start to look at them all together.

InspBoards_Feb_2012_044. Hang your boards.  Mine are 24 x 36 cork boards and I screwed in picture hanging d rings with wire between them on the back to hang them securely.  I find it easiest to stand on my desk and arrange images while the boards are already on the wall.  I tend to let the images hang off the sides, so it helps when the boards are in place to know the boundaries outside of them.

InspBoards_Feb_2012_055.  Now it's time to pin! I have used many options of pins over the years, decorative, bottle caps, straight pins, ball pins...right now I'm into classic push pins in clear.  Again your choice.  Pin up your first image.  I find it easiest to work left to right in rows...similar to writing.

InspBoards_Feb_2012_066. Continue pinning your images.  I like to over lap a lot and arrange the pages with different angles angles...I feel its a better aesthetic.

InspBoards_Feb_2012_077. As you position images and see them next to one another consider the relationship between the images, the balance of colors and the cohesive effect of the images all together.  You can always take things out and put in different images if the finished look is unbalanced!

InspBoards_Feb_2012_088. Stand back and admire your work...you have created your first inspiration board! Yay!!
