What a week.  I think my hard drive crashing was number three on my list of most stressful moments in the life of Manic Trout, coming in behind two floods...both causing my studio to be evacuated and one forcing me to move and the being a move of 2000 miles and having to keep my studio n a pod for a month.  Thankfully I now have a new hard drive and as I back up weekly, I only lost a small amount of work.

While transferring photos from my phone this morning, I realized it been quite some time since I posted instagram photos.  Speaking of instagram, have you seen followgram yet?  You can access your instagram account from your mac, its awesome!

Anyway, here is what I have been up to the past week or so...

InstagramDec03_2011_02Faye who is exhausted after her first walk on a beach.  There was a plethora of washed up jellyfish and fish carcasses that day to cause utter joy and excitement.  All in all, a successful adventure.

InstagramDec03_2011_04We had to stop at the tourist trap on the way off the island to photo the dinosaurs and other creatures...I personally liked the shark the best.

InstagramDec03_2011_05A pit stop for a big bag of pineapple oranges on the road home...so happy we did, yummy!!

InstagramDec03_2011_06When it gets down into the low 40's in Austin, the outdoor bars are still open as usual, so everyone is out on 6th street in parkas and scarves...still hanging around outside...freezing cold but reluctant to go inside...me included!

InstagramDec03_2011_07Faye and I had a lot of cuddle time this week while my computer was gone.

InstagramDec03_2011_08Part of the Manic Trout tent at Austin's First Thursday this month, I love doing outdoor night shows in December...we're sure not in NY anymore!

InstagramDec03_2011_09Adam and I had date night last night...burgers at Docs on Congress, an unexpected stop at the Big Top Candy Shop and then we were off to see Jack and Jill (the new Adam Sandler flick)...it was the perfect date and so much fun!

FayeWatchingSnow

Faye wishing all that snow would just go away already

I have learned a few things about blizzards and working from home this winter, as well…we have had one every week for over a month. Here are my snow day guidelines:

  • Do make sure you have the necessities on hand. If any of the following run out, I have a panic attack: apples, tea, movies and what I like to call “legal candy” i.e. dried fruit, crystallized ginger and other sweet treats that are NOT candy and therefore I may eat them without guilt that I am a sugar junky.
  • Do break some of the rules on snow days…such as having movies on in the studio during daytime hours.
  • Don’t let being cooped up get the best of you. Cabin fever is not a made up concept (hello, did you not see The Shining?) and you need to make sure you at least talk to other people on the phone.
  • Do bribe yourself to not become a sloth. If you do an exercise video during the day, you can put jammies back on after you shower.
  • Do shovel often. Do not think the snow and ice that has accumulated will just go away. A wooden stairway quickly becomes a luge run and will take much more effort to make them safe a week later than if you just did it as it snowed.
  • Don’t drive from Baltimore, MD to Millbrook, NY in a blizzard. It will take you a looong time and be so stressful that you will get a cold after wards.
  • Do make sure that on non snow days, you get the heck out of your studio for a few hours...you’ll feel amazingly refreshed by the time the next blizzard hits...you know, three days later.
  • Do realize that if you have a dog that they too are cooped up…try to engage them in a bit of indoor activity so their boredom does not backfire and result in the chewing of your favorite possessions.
  • Don’t forget that when you go outside its not ok to forget to wear boots, hats, gloves and perhaps a blanket to prevent freezing to death.
  • Don’t put off cleaning the snow from you car and the space behind it until you need to be somewhere right now. It will not happen.

Stay warm my pretties, here in the Northeast we’re due for more snow...Saturday…and Tuesday and Wednesday…

AlleyJanSnowNight

my "back yard"

We closed the restaurant tonight because of the snow and even though we're only open 2 nights a week, I get really excited when we have a snow night!  I of course celebrated by reading on the couch (my ultimate guilty pleasure activity!).  After an hour I was restless so I have been organizing in the studio and watching house.  I may even make some hot cocoa, woo hoo!

SierraJanSnowNight

Sierra all bundled up

For a break, I grabbed my camera, bundled us both up and took Faye out for a sad little walk.  However, she gets a bit whiny about the snow and just stands there looking at me like I enjoy watching her suffer and find her pain amusing, its kind of funny, but at the same time pitiful.

Shortly after we got outside, I was happily taking pictures when we were almost were attacked on the side walk by this woman's two crazed yapping dogs, so I gave in and our adventure was cut short.

Home

The second floor is home to me, Faye and Manic Trout and on a snowy night is cozier then ever...I'll admit I'm not that upset to be back inside!

Faye_Face

A few months ago, I was so very lucky to be at the right place at the right time...well and more importantly, to know the right people.  The very talented Dale Spartas was in town from Montana and I got to have my little Faye photographed!!

Faye_Sporty

Doesn't she look so sporty and yet regal?

Faye_Standing

It was pretty cool to watch Dale work, he was great with Faye and was some how able to not only get her to behave like a normal dog, but to hide the fact that she has become a little chunky in her mature years.

Faye_Sierra

You can see all 22 photos darling photos here!  Thank you Dale!!

So, I always grocery shop and run errands on Mondays, is that weird?  I love coming home and making that first meal with an abundance of fresh ingredients to choose from.  This Monday I decided to bake Banana Bread as I had bananas left over that were perfect for bread.  Plus, it smells sooooo amazing while baking and is so simple to make!

Fruit & Bread

A peek at Monday's bounty

Monday is usually a late studio night for me but this was an exception as I had an unexpected visitor for the evening. I didn't get much work done as I was a bit distracted walking and playing with Faye and our guest for the evening, but I had so much fun.  I also enjoyed a special late night dinner of the freshest Venison I've ever had.  If you have been lucky enough to be treated to the tenderloin on the same night, you know how incredibly awesome it is.  Yum!

Pups

Faye & Jane wondering why I am working instead of playing with them

Thank you to facebook and my love of cheeses, Shanley and Christine came over last night and I created a festive cocktail for them.  I tossed a handful of pomegranate seeds (great instructions for cutting open the fruit) into a wine glass along with a few tiny ice cubes.  Poured in a bit of Sancerre (or your favorite light white wine),  a healthy splash of Pom Juice and filled the rest of the glass with Pellagrino.  Was a complete hit with the ladies and went well with the cheese, pears, grapes & prosciutto!

Pomegranate Spritzer

Pomegranate Spritzer

Somehow I manged to get a decent amount of work in between all this fun and of course I voted!  Tomorrow I have lunch with a friend and then have to chain myself to my desk for awhile as I am crossing my fingers that I will be eating remarkable lasagna for dinner...well its more like I am crossing my fingers that the lasagna will be remarkable anyway.  I have been craving kick ass Italian food and after realizing that i have no idea where to find it, I asked around and think I may have found mecca...I'll make to let you know if I do...promise.

If you have ever been to my house or read this blog, you know I adore my dog Faye.  She's basically my kid and I honestly think that I wouldn't have gotten through the last 7 1/2 years (divorce, family deaths, career changes and lots of similar fun stuff) as happily without her.  She's a very patient listener, pillow and never judges when I cry.  Anyway, little Faye is getting on her years and I have started to think that one day I will have to get a companion as she ages and to live beyond her.  My chest just tightened when I said that, I'm dead serious...but the other day I saw this...

Dog

I think that this particular dog has a similar look in the eyes to Faye...it actually is kind of a rounded version, almost the exact coloring...but not nearly as cute.  Anyway...my point is that I have no idea what breed this dog is and am rather curious to find out...anyone have an idea?

Faye Napping

Faye...wondering what is SO important that I have to do this while she is napping

I just found this list while cleaning out my documents folder, and thought I'd share it before I tossed it.

Fayeisms are little thoughts inspired by observing my darling dog Faye:

  • If you’re going to bother to do something (such as stretch), really get into it and don’t rush it…savor every moment.
  • Is much more exciting to be greeted by someone thrilled to see you then indifferent to your existence.
  • Its OK to make random weird noises.
  • If you exert a great deal of energy, make sure you rest thoroughly after.
  • Take a few minutes each day to lavish the ones you love with excessive love and adoration.
  • Never share your favorite toy because that way if something happens to it you have no one to blame but yourself.
  • It’s essential to your sanity as well as your cute figure to take a brisk walk most days.
  • Not everybody has to love you.
  • No worries, no matter how crazy you seem, your charming personality will win everyone over.

Thank you to Faye for our philosophical insight of the day!

I received Faye's annual new leash & collar set today!  I decided to move on from the ribbon style as they loose their luster so quickly and went instead with an Eco Friendly, 100% recycled and very fetching (couldn't help it) Harry Barker Deauville set.  It was tough to decide this year...I was over on the Molly & Max site undecided for some time, but happy with my decision...as is Faye...

...if I could only get her in Manic Trout...she's a fickle little thing.
