I got them and they are spectacular!!!!  I love the heels the best…and the R. Crumb tissue paper is also pretty great.  So I decided to look through a few old sketch books and found the exact same illustration from the shoes that I had doodled of Fritz my Sophomore year in college…and I’m pretty sure I was wearing Vans when I drew this…destiny, I tell ya.

Now I just have to wait for all of this dirty snow to melt so I can wear them!

Check out the end of the year Sale for your last chance to snag these little pretties…

Thank you for such a wonderful year!

I subscribe to a big stack of magazines…mostly fashion and culture, its part of the job and all (insert write off here) and have a bog old table full in the studio. Admittedly I am a bit behind on my reading this month and have been catching up this week and kicking myself for missing out on a few fnatastic things. I actual had a near panic attack a few minutes ago resulting in a mad dash for my computer and an immediate Sierra-style google search (I am the google master and am known for my blackberry googleing skills while out and about). By golly I did it though, and very shortly I will own one these (with free shipping!):

I have been wearing black Old Skool Vans FOREVER and have been wanting a pair of slip ons but couldn’t figure out which ones I wanted…and then I saw them in the November Juxtapose magazine…what happens when you combine Robert Crumbs Fritz The Cat and Vans? Perfection…thats what happens. Did I mention that I used to doodle Fritz the Cat all the time in college? I even have the exact drawing from the shoes in a sketch book…this is so meant to be.

These are so f-ing Rad yo*. ok, its time to calm down now.

*if you know me well, you’ll know what an incredible compliment that is.

Fashion & Politics

Dec 282009

I work very hard at keeping politics out of my business and my blog and this is incredibly hard as I am extremely opinionated politically, but I am also a designer, not a political commentator, so why would you give a rats ass about what I think about politics anyway. I did however just read this article and had to share it and talk a tiny bit about it. Please keep in mind that I as am an avid reader of the Wall Street Journal and that being the only newspaper I ever look at, it took me a few days to hear about this Times article via blog, so its a few days old.

Cathy Horyn in her article Wrapped in Their Identities, brings up some incredible points…like for example…why is the first lady wearing so many non American designers during a time when American Fashion is having a bit of economic crisis? Way to support your country Michele…as Ms. Horyn pointed out, Jackie had to give up Givenchy when Kennedy was in office, where is your loyalty? Its nice that you wear J Crew and all but what about the independent American Designers??? I’ll stop there and just say once more that if you have any interest in fashion, or politics for that matter and 5 minutes to spare…check out the article for yourself.

As an online store my Holiday schedule is a bit different then brick and mortar retailers, and I am lucky enough to have been done with the madness for a few days now.  Don’t think however that I have used this as an excuse to slack off…instead the Manic Trout studio has been bustling with getting the Spring line off of the sketch book pages and into production!  I shared a peek at a new necklace line and the very exciting new hair accessories line yesterday and today I will give you a glimpse of a very special Valentines Day treat I will have online really soon!

Is it too soon to be talking about Valentines Day? Well, I figure they should be available by early January, so if you don’t get a sneak peek now, you never will!

I have been trying to channel Spring recently as I work on the preliminary designs for the Spring Line and I am loooooving this dress…see all the o’s? Well that’s how much I adore it. I could do without the attack of the pigeons, but as I typed this, i just realized that I was checking out pigeon charms yesterday, so there you go…inspiration comes in intriguing ways.

The Goal (Image from Crash #50)

The Goal (Image from Crash #50)

I used to be a big believer in New Years Resolutions, but in the last few years have come to realize that if I want to get something done, I should just focus on it and get right to it rather then put the pressure of the new year on it. Although, I do love a new beginning…being a long time lover of Mondays and September after all. This year however I got to thinking…well, I always get a bit dark and introspective as the year ends and I tend to sum up what’s been going on. Getting knocked on my butt by strep throat this past week has provided plenty of time for deep thoughts as I have had little energy to do anything else. The most distressing thing I realized was that in an effort to provide myself more room to paint by creating a whole room for it, I have effectively stopped myself from painting, and that sucks. I miss the days when I would unleash my crazy amount of energy on canvases *sigh*. So I am basically promising myself to get back to the state above…really any way I can find a reason to hang around the house naked more often is fine by me…and its easier to clean paint off of me then my clothes as well!

Velvet, November 2009

It may be freezing outside, but I have had so much fun piling on the chunky sweaters, tights, cashmere and fur recently. I have often said that I will never live in a climate without the four seasons because I love winter clothes so much! As much as I adore spring and summer skirts, nothing beats wrapping yourself up in the rich fabrics of winter.

I am so very proud of myself…this past weekend it was 20 degrees outside and I still wore party dresses and I had the fun of adding very bright colored tights! I just never feel as feminine and pretty when I dress up in pants…
